Anti-wrinkle injections, more commonly known as Botox™ are a quick and effective treatment in the management of wrinkles and fine lines. Anti-wrinkle injections are a great anti-ageing treatment not only for treating wrinkles already present but also stopping the formation of any new wrinkles and fine lines appearing, an all in one 15 minute treatment. As well as for cosmetic reasons, Botox™ also serves many medical purposes. The use of Botox™ is also medically proven to help prevent migraines and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

WHAT IS BOTOX™?

The anti-wrinkle injection is botulinum toxin, a neurotoxin compound. It is a FDA approved prescription only medicine which acts to temporarily relax the muscles at the points treated by blocking the nerve signals they receive.

As the muscles are temporarily frozen they no longer contract or cause the folds of skin that appear on certain facial expressions. This causes the wrinkles to soften and relax whilst also acting to prevent new lines forming in the area. At The Medispa we believe in a subtle approach and as a result you won’t lose expression of the face, just the wrinkles!

The Botox™ is administered using a very fine needle so there is no discomfort during treatment. The whole process takes about 15 minutes. Results begin to show within two weeks and last between 3 to 6 months depending on the individual.

Botox™ is the brand name of one of the anti-wrinkle injections composed of botulinum toxin. There are many other brands including Azzalure® and Bocouture, all of which are forms of botulinum toxin.

At what age should I start Botox?

Botox is best used conservatively. When you start to notice wrinkles and lines appearing whilst making facial expressions, it may be time for a consultation. This is normally in your 30’s but depends on a range of factors such as genetics and lifestyle.

Will it give me a frozen look with no expression?

At The Medispa we only ever want to enhance your natural beauty. We prefer a subtle and more natural look so never aim for the “frozen look”, we believe less is more.

We offer a complimentary review with all anti-wrinkle procedures after two weeks. So, if you feel you still have too much movement for your liking this can be addressed.

Is it safe?

Botox is an FDA approved medicine. It is a prescription only drug meaning it is prescribed specifically to be used on yourself.

It will only be administered by one of our highly trained medical practitioners who have performed over 40,000 of these treatments.

Does it hurt?

The needle used to administer anti-wrinkle injections is extremely fine, so no anaesthetic is even required. After the treatment it is advised not to apply any makeup or touch the area for at least 6 hours. Other than that, you are free to go about your day as normal.
